    Young North Public School has current enrolment of 312 students and is committed to the delivery of excellence in student learning programs for all students in a culture that fosters respect, responsibility and empathy. Our school aims to develop high quality future focused learners and citizens. Young North Public School is located in a rural setting approximately 2 hours from Canberra, Wagga Wagga and Orange. Our school caters for students from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures with significant populations of First Nations students who are currently at 17% across K-6 and Lebanese-Muslim students currently at 8% across K-6. The school has three support classes with the possibility of a fourth support class. The school has a dedicated and diverse staff who strive to ensure they maintain high professional standards and deliver quality learning to their students. The school is supported by the parents and broader community and has experienced growing student enrolments over the past four years due to community engagement and trust.

    Specific Selection Criteria

    In addition to the general selection criteria, following specific criteria must be addressed.

  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience with Autism, intellectual disability and challenging behaviours using knowledge and understanding of relevant disability legislation and Department of Education policies.
  • Capacity to provide specialist assistance through leading and supervising staff in the planning and delivery of evidence-based learning and teaching programs including differentiated personalised learning and support plans, Health Care and Behaviour Management Plans, which are accessible and engaging for students with special and diverse needs.
  • Highly developed skills to facilitate access for learning and support teachers, school teams and stakeholders to drive professional learning grounded in current research and skills training, including trauma informed practice and holistic student wellbeing.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to drive strategic directions across the school and work as part of a collaborative team, building positive and trusting relationships and partnerships with students, parents, staff, external agencies and wider school community.
    • General Selection Criteria

    1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
    2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
    3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
    4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
    5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
    6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
