    The Role
    Reporting to the First Assistant Secretary/Chief Counsel, the Assistant Secretary/Senior Executive Lawyer leads the Bargaining and Coverage Branch and is responsible for provision of legal advice, development of legislation and managing interventions in the FWC and Court proceedings relating to bargaining; enterprise agreements; gig economy; independent contractors; industrial action; stand down; transfer of business; constitutional and geographic coverage of the Fair Work Act 2009; and the Coal Mining Long Service Leave scheme.
    The successful candidate will have a strong legal background (and be admitted or eligible to be admitted as a legal practitioner) with experience in legal advising, legislative development and litigation and be an outstanding leader and manager.

    Qualifications and Education
    To be eligible for a position in the Workplace Relations Legal Division, applicants must:

    • hold a degree in law from an Australian tertiary institution or comparable overseas qualification, and
    • admission or the ability to be admitted as a legal practitioner, however described, of the High Court or the Supreme Court of and Australian State or Territory.
