    About the role

    Victorian Transmission Planning is a multidisciplinary team that is located across a number of AEMO's offices and manages a number of projects that are currently at various phases from early planning to execution.

    As an Engineer within the team you will undertake power system modelling and analysis associated with assessing the capability of the transmission network, quantifying the size of any emerging gaps, and then designing economic solutions that deliver safe, secure, and reliable supply.

    What you will be doing

    • Prepare clear, concise and high quality written and verbal communication; including reports, stakeholder presentations, information packs, briefing papers, and contributions to the production of key planning documents (such as the VAPR and Regulatory Investment Test-Transmission reports).
    • Undertake simulation and analysis of the Victorian transmission network using specialised computer simulation tools, and identify network capability and emerging limitations.
    • Interpret and justify simulation outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide robust recommendations on network adequacy and investment options.
    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging across teams, and communicate AEMO position on planning related matters.

    What you will bring to the role

    • Proficiency in using electricity network analysis tools or relevant software (such as PSS/E) and interpreting results.
    • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
    • Knowledge of the physical operation of the electricity transmission systems and the overarching markets.
    • Understanding of cost benefit assessment of projects including probability based analysis of investment decisions.
    • Sound knowledge of the role and functions of AEMO, the energy markets and relevant laws, regulations, rules, licences and agreements.
