What the role looks like.
As a software engineering manager, you are responsible for leading a team of 3-5 engineers, developing key product features through all the phases of the software development cycle, working alongside other software engineers, product managers and key stakeholders.
The tools you will be working with include but are not limited to PHP and Laravel and experience with a backend stack is desired.
You will be working with a variety of automation tools.You will be influential in defining the future of software architecture as we continue to evolve.
But most importantly, you'll be joining an engineering team that prides itself on its high standards and quality products The Engineering Manager participates in all phases of the software development cycle, including analysis, design, development, debugging, testing, and deployments.
This is very much a hands-on role where you will be coding on a daily basis.An idea of the type of profile we are looking for:
- Experience leading technology engineering teams from both technical and people perspective
- 5 + years commercial experience with PHP web frameworks (preferably with Laravel)
- Ability to mentor and train other developers in the team
- Drive change to build, showcase and share technology best practices and evangelise engineering practice across the business
- Good understanding of engineering principles, and what makes good quality software ( eg SOLID)
- Experience working in an agile team (Scrum, Lean, Kanban or any other flavour )
- Previous experience in testdriven development
- Knowledge of relational and nonrelational databases is desirable but not essential
- Experience in maintaining production workloads in a Linux environment
- Knowledge of Docker and ideally Kubernetes
