Background

The Single Assessment System Taskforce Section (SAS) is responsible for establishing the Single Assessment System to meet Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety Recommendation 28: A Single Comprehensive Assessment Process.

This includes the development of new aged care assessment policy, workforce engagement and model specifications such as First Nations, rural and remote and in-hospital assessments.

SAS are also responsible for ICT changes required for the implementation of the model. Additionally, SAS manages the national roll out of the hospital portal in My Aged Care. The section work with stakeholders to ensure alignment with the new in-home age care program, and AN-ACC assessment.
Role Description


The Department is looking for two APS6 equivalent project and/or policy officers to join the Single Assessment System Taskforce Section.

The role is in a dynamic and fast paced environment, assisting the Branch to deliver a reformed and improved in-home aged care program from 1 July 2024.

These roles report to EL- Assistant Directors and support assessment policy development and program design.

Projects requiring support in the next 6 months include:

Hospital Portal rollout
Prototype Assessment Tool Trial,
Effort Attribution Study,
External stakeholder consultations,
Mainstream assessment policy development,
Indigenous assessment design,
Procurement.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with creation and maintenance of policies and procedures.
Provide expertise and technical knowledge in aged care assessment across a range of activities.
Provide accurate and specialised advice including anticipating problems and contributing to issues management.
Undertake relevant project activities to support delivery of project outcomes as required.
Contribute to a range of policy and parliamentary documents to a high standard with mínimal changes required.
Ensure knowledge of and compliance with legislative, financial, and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulations.

Manage competing priorities in the work area, support maintenance of team cohesion, and deliver quality of outputs requiring mínimal revision.

Support the Assistant Director by mentoring junior staff and reviewing their work prior to progressing work for clearance.

Key Capabilities
Prior experience in project management and/or policy development.
Ability to plan and manage activities to deliver outcomes within established project timeframes.

Good written and verbal communication skills, experience in preparing a range of written materials and documentation, and tailoring messages and style to different audiences.

Ability to develop and foster strong interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and achieve results to meet program objectives within tight timeframes.
Interpret, draft and review policy and procedural directions within aged care assessment.
Contribute to the planning and implementation of policies and objectives.
Coordinate risk assessment and risk management activities for a project or program
