Position Information:


The Ponds High School, located in the suburb of The Ponds in the north-west of Sydney is a 7-12 comprehensive high school that has over 2000 students in Years 7-12.

Most KLAs have two head teachers to supervise staff. Fifty-three per cent of these students come from a non-English speaking background and 0.6 % identify as ATSI.

The school shares a site with Riverbank Public School and is part of an innovative and energetic community approach to teaching and learning.

The school has developed outstanding teaching and learning programs including; a strong welfare approach to student wellbeing, a culturally inclusive program and support for the creative and performing arts.

The school has two support classes, a HP&GE class in each year and has an active BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program using the learning platform Canvas.

The Stage 5 and 6 elective structure provides extensive choice for students.

Current whole school learning and teaching priorities include; using CANVAS for effective learning and a Teams structure to support SIP priorities including; Assessment, Choice Theory, Literacy, Numeracy, Aboriginal Education, HP&GE, EAL/D and School Culture.

The Science faculty run an accelerated HSC Science course each year.


Selection Criteria:

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to developing and promoting Science.
  • Ability to lead, monitor and evaluate innovative, evidencebased programs to improve student engagement and achievement.
  • Ability to colead and develop a diverse and highly effective team that enhances opportunities for student success and caters for a broad range of student learning needs.

General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
