The Public Trustee performs many roles, managing deceased estates and trusts, while also assisting some of the most vulnerable members of our community to live their best life possible.

You will be working within a dynamic team that takes pride in the service they provide to the community.

Opportunities exist in two customer facing branches, Estate Services and Personal Estates:


Estate Services:

you will provide legal based administrative services to individual customers for trusts and estates, including the provision of advice and liaising on real estate sales, taxation matters and the collection or transfer of estate assets.


Personal Estates:

you will administer the financial and legal affairs of people who are unable to manage their own affairs, including managing bank accounts, investments, property and other assets.


About You
This role will enable you to showcase your outstanding relationship management, finance, and case management skills.

As an experienced customer relationship professional and financial administrator, you can effectively liaise with all internal and external stakeholders to meet customer and business objectives.

You enjoy working independently while managing multiple customer's requests and estate administration, ensuring all information is accurate and timely while delivering quality results.

Key Selection Criteria

Estate Services:


  • Demonstrated expertise in caseload management
  • Proven skills in working within a legislative framework with an understanding of estate management (preferable)
  • Ability to build trust and articulate complex information in a logical and clear manner
  • High level of competence with numerical calculations and preparation of financial statements

Personal Estates:


  • Experience managing conflict situations with tact, sound judgement, discretion and empathy
  • Demonstrated expertise in high volume caseload management
  • Proven skills in working within a fast paced legislative framework
  • Proven ability to articulate clear, concise and accurate messages both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to build trust and articulate complex information in a logical and clear manner

About the Business

Public Trustee's mission statement is:
"To protect the wishes and interests of those we serve".


The Office of the Public Trustee was established in 1881 and is constituted under the provisions of the Public Trustee Act 1995.


The role of the Public Trustee is to provide eligible South Australians with access to Will making services, powers of attorney preparation and deceased estate and trust administration.

Public Trustee also has a role in managing the financial affairs of those people in the community who lack the capacity to manage their own affairs as determined by the courts, the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT) or through activation of powers of attorney.

The Public Trustee is a separate agency within the broader departmental organisation of the Attorney-General's Department.


Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested.
