The Child Development Specialist (or specialists if the position is divided into two part-time roles) is involved in the delivery of the School Readiness Funding program and the Family Transition to School Program.

The Child Development Specialist(s) will draw on their discipline-specific knowledge and skills (in occupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology or social work), and their broader knowledge of child development, to build the capacity of parents, carers and educators, and in turn, to enhance children's learning, development and transition to school.

The School Readiness Funding program involves the delivery of capacity-building allied health sessions to kindergarten educators and parents. These sessions focus on child development with particular focus on communication, wellbeing (social and emotional) and access and inclusion.

The Child Development Specialist(s) will deliver these sessions to kindergarten educators and parents in the Cities of Port Phillip, Stonnington, Bayside, Kingston and Glen Eira.

Some of these sessions are held in the evening.

The Family Transition to School Program involves the development and delivery of family-focused group sessions to parents of children attending four-year old kindergarten in the Cities of Port Phillip, Stonington, Bayside, Kingston and Glen Eira.

The program aims to build parents' capacity to support their child's transition to school through strengths-based activities and group sessions.

The Child Development Specialist(s) will liaise with kindergarten educators and parents, collaboratively develop a program plan with other members of the CYFT, and deliver group sessions to parents.


Ideally, you will possess:


  • A professional qualification in Social Work, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy or Psychology.
  • Experience in working in early childhood intervention, family support and/or early childhood education.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver group sessions.
  • Excellent knowledge of child development and evidencebased approaches to supporting children and families.
  • A clear understanding of the social model of health.
