    Description

    NSW Commercial Fishing Industry Association – Sydney CBD NSW The NSW Commercial Fishing Industry Association is the newly created peak industry representative body for the registered commercial catching sector fishing business owners in NSW.

    The Association is structured on a regional representation basis with directors to be elected from each region by the members in each region to make up the Board of Directors.

    Funding in the first three years will be a combination of members levy and government support funding.

    The Association will work closely with fishing industry members and government to maximise the industry benefit from management of commercial fisheries in NSW.

    Advocacy with other government decision agencies impacting the commercial fishing industry will be a fundamental role of the CEO on behalf of the Association.

    The CEO will lead the organisation to achieve the strategic objectives.

    These include to:

    • understand and communicate industry members views to decision makers,
    • enhance industry involvement and responsibility within the decision making process,
    • maintain and enhance the reputation and credibility of the industry,
    • diversify income streams, and,1.

    Key Responsibilities(a) Facilitate the development of views of members of the Association to achieve an industry position/s on matters of importance and for solving of common problems.(b) Communicate issues of significance to members of the Association.(c) Communicate the Association's position/s on issues of significance to relevant parties - including government.(d) To act as adviser to and/or intermediary between government (and other parties) and the Association members.(e) To represent the views of the Association at State and Commonwealth levels and represent the Association on various bodies as required.(f) Assist the Board of Directors, sub-committees, working groups and members to meet and establish industry views as required.(g) Promote the importance and sustainable nature of the NSW Commercial Fishing Industry to the key decision makers, consumers and wider community in an effort to boost the industry profile.(h) Daily management of the Association operational activities that, where applicable, shall be in line with the guidelines and policies as determined by the Association.(i) Management of finances, staff (if any), external contracts and consultants for completion of activities as initiated by the Association from time to time.(j) Ensure all activities are effectively monitored and evaluated for impact and outcomes.2.

    Authority(a) Direct responsibility is to the Board of Directors.(b) Reporting to the Board of Directors on all areas of responsibility.3.

    Relationships(a)

    Develop strong working relationship with the Association members and Board of Directors.(b) Develop strong working relationships with key groups including:
    (i) NSW Minister responsible for Fisheries and government generally,(ii) NSW Department of Primary Industry (Fisheries Division),(iii) Australian Fisheries Management Authority (Commonwealth fishers),(iv) Australian Maritime Safety Authority (maritime safety),(v) Government agencies responsible for State and Federal marine park planning and approvals,(vi) Government agencies responsible for State and Federal Offshore Renewable Energy planning and approvals,(vii) Government agencies responsible for State and Federal offshore Oil and Gas planning and approvals,(viii) any other State or Federal Government department or body having jurisdiction over matters of importance to the NSW Commercial Fishing Industry,(ix) bodies representing the market sector, recreational fishing, indigenous fishing, environmental NGOs, animal welfare NGOs.(c) Develop a strong working relationship with the media.4.

    Committee Membership Represent the Association on various major and minor committees or working groups as required from time to time and approved by the Board of Directors.

    SELECTION CRITERIAPersonal characteristics Knowledge Experience Commitment Employment is on a contract basis for 3 years which will be renewed subject to funding and a satisfactory performance review.

    This is a full-time role based in NSW.
    Base location negotiable.
