The Role
The Victorian Skills Plan unit comprises of up to nine staff.

Along with the Victorian Skills Plan team manager, there are two Principal Economic Analyst roles within the team, who will have day-to-day line management responsibility for team members.

The key responsibilities of the Research Officer position are as follows:

Under the guidance of other team members, support the drafting of the Victorian Skills Plan and provide input into papers and briefings for the executive, VSA Advisory Board and Minister.

Working with other team members, provide analysis and insights to support the VSA and other Victorian government workforce development priorities, and national skills needs and skill shortage analysis.

The position has the following key accountabilities but not limited to:

  • Analyse and report data using a range of tools (especially Python and/or R)
  • Undertake complex analytical projects to monitor progress against key outcomes
  • Ensure delivery of timely, accurate and high quality data products and reports
  • Develop innovative approaches to the presentation and visualisation of complex data for nondata stakeholders
  • Provide recommendations for embedding insights from analysis to drive action.
The Team

The position of Economic Analyst forms a part of the Analysis and Insights branch in the Victorian Skills Authority group.

The Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) is an Administrative Office of the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions reporting to the Minister for Training and Skills.

Established on 1 July 2021, its function is to generate data insights, develop place-based solutions for local problems, promote quality improvement, and identify skills development to achieve job outcomes that strengthen the Victorian economy.
