The Role
The APS 5 Workforce Planning Officer will be accountable to:

  • critically analyse and assess work value information and provide data driven recommendations about the creation of positions
- collect and analyse workforce data to create reports that effectively show relevant information and trends to inform decision making
- write briefs, reports and Determinations for senior leadership with a compelling narrative and relevant workforce data to support recommendations
- communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders across Defence about work value assessments and organisational design activities
- collaborate effectively with colleagues across the Division, Group and enterprise about various work functions and activities
- work collaboratively in a small team to share workforce information, assist with work load and meet tight deadlines
- exercise diplomacy and tact in verbal and written communication with staff across Defence on various organisational design activities
- implement agreed solutions for a range of workforce management and planning activities


About our Team

The Organisational Design and Work Valuation team are primarily responsible to provide recommendations about work value assessments for the creation of EL 1 and above positions and organisational design activities for business areas across Defence.

This directly contributes to workforce capability across the Defence enterprise enabling business areas to pursue strategies and meet goals.
- critically and accurately analyse information about positions and the workforce, identifying the key information required to make accurate recommendations
- write reports, briefs and Determinations in a way that "tells the story" and include data to support recommendations so that decision makers have all the information required to make decisions
- engage with stakeholders both verbally and in writing to gain information and provide advice to achieve outcomes and build relationships
- work collaboratively and effectively in a small team and in a wider Division to achieve outcomes and meet tight deadlines
- enjoy contributing to innovation activities for process improvements
