    Aboutthe role

    This positionrequires a dynamic employee who can work across the division anddevelop skills which can assist in multidiscipline teams, both indevelopment assessment and land use streams, providing seniorexpertise where the resources are required in relation to strategicplanning projects and development applicationfunctions.

    A SeniorPlanning Officer will provide professional advice, direction, andleadership to Planning Officers in relation to developmentassessment and the project management of strategic projectsassociated with land use planning.

    The positionsits within a large team environment and works in a broadermulti-discipline where collaboration is essential in makinginformed land use and development assessment decisions. Theposition requires good communication skills and negotiation with avariety of stakeholders to balance land use outcomes for theCity.

    Aboutyou

    Thesuccessful candidate will possess a degree or post graduatequalifications in town planning or other qualifications orexperience which satisfies eligibility for Corporate Membership ofthe Planning Institute of Australia (PIA). The successful candidateshould also have, a minimum of 5 years' experience, whichincludes both land use planning and developmentassessment.

    You will needdetailed knowledge of the following:

  • Related legislation both to Commonwealth and State (e.g., Queensland Heritage Act 1992, Environmental Protection Act 1994, and Contaminated Land Act 1991).
  • The Local Government Act 2009.
  • The Planning Act 2016and associated legislation, regulation and the Townsville City Plan and the Economic Development Act 2012, regulation, and the associated Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area Development Scheme.
  • Development assessment, encompassing ability to successfully interpret and apply relevant legislation,
  • Strategic land use planning practices encompassing areas such as statutory planning.
  • Urban design, architecture, social planning, and transport planning.
