Experience

My career in the Australian Army provided me with the opportunity to work at multiple levels of command from section level as a Junior Non-Commissioned Officer to Defence Headquarters and Joint Operations Command to conduct liaison, project coordination and exercise design. My posting history:

  • 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (Soldier to Section Commander). This tenure included a deployment to Timor Leste as a Section Commander in addition to various instructional requirements on both Subject 2 for Corporal and Mortar Platoon courses.
  • 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment (Troop Commander and Operations Officer). This tenure was one of my most significant postings where I was the Operations Officer. In this role I was responsible for the raise, train and sustainment of combat engineering capability in support of the 3rd Brigade. This involved the ongoing planning and execution of multiple training activities, skills specific courses, deployment of personnel into either natural disaster response zones, overseas training and into active war zones.
This role also required liaison from Unit to Service Headquarter level for the design of exercises to bring new equipment, such as new bridging capability, into service in conjunction with other Corps that were either supporting Combat Engineers or that Combat engineers were required to support.
This role also required regular liaison with external supporting agencies, such as CUBIC, in supporting the design of upcoming activities to ensure the maintenance of capability in support of GOAS requirements.
  • Incident Response Regiment (Troop Commander and Squadron Operations Officer). During this tenure, I deployed to Timor Leste with an Emergency Response Troop in support of the Aviation Group. As the Squadron Operations Officer, I was required to work with other Special Operations Units to ensure the that the engineering capability in support of domestic and international response options.
