This is a great opportunity to gain hands on experience whilst studying and working towards a successful completion of Certificate III in Mobile Plant or Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology which have a 4-year nominal study term.

This has a focus on building the essential skills and expertise required for the maintenance and repair of diesel engines. This role is designed for individuals who have a passion for automotive mechanics, providing hands-on training, collaboration opportunities with seasoned professionals, and a pathway for personal and professional growth.

Skills and Qualifications:

Develop the skills and knowledge of a trade qualified Mechanic under the supervision of qualified team members;
Assist in the maintenance and general repairs of Council's Water and Sewerage pump and instrument fleet;
Collaborate with experienced mechanics to perform hands-on repairs and routine maintenance on diesel engines and related components and develop skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting engine issues;
Attend TAFE/TechNQ as required, successfully completing all assessments in a timely manner;
Maintain a positive attitude towards learning the skills and knowledge required to perform functions of a Diesel Fitter;
To develop skills and knowledge required to perform tasks associated with the operation and upkeep of installed mechanical assets;
Participate in regular reviews of performance and identifying improvements;
Other duties within the employee's skill, competence, and training level, as required to meet business needs. This may include Workshop housekeeping and other maintenance or non-trade tasks as well as providing assistance in other areas of the Infrastructure Operations Department;
Develop, support, and maintain internal and external relationships; and
Assist in the implementation of Service Delivery Standards relevant to the position.

What Council Offers (Hours dependant on role):

76 hour fortnight with roster variations depending on the position (9-day fortnight - RDOs in accordance with Council policy);

General Salary Information
This position will be paid under Stream C Award – Apprentice Mechanics, where the annual salary is dependent on age and time out of school at the time of appointment.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Pre-employment screening includes Medicals, Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Criminal History Checks to ensure capability to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
