About the Role:


Join us as the Environmental Manager, where your primary role will be to provide environmental and sustainability governance and leadership to our Australian mining, refining, and smelting operations.

This key position will focus on regional water stewardship, carbon and greenhouse gas management, and waste portfolios, aligning with our global environmental and sustainability goals and strategies.


The core activities of the role includes:

  • Providing strategic oversight, guidance, and technical support to Australian operating locations on corporate standards, external benchmarking, and policy and regulatory requirements related to climate change, carbon management, and sustainable water and waste stewardship.
  • Establishing and managing a program to develop our Regional Water Stewardship Strategy and position statement.
  • Track and interpret the external regulatory and political environment, including global and local changes in carbon, climate change, water, and waste policies.
  • Provide strategic guidance for sustainability performance across Australia, managing existing business risk.
  • Develop and coordinate the deployment of regional programs ensuring compliance with policy and regulatory requirements and alignment with Alcoa's global sustainability goals.
  • Collaborate with internal customers, industry bodies, and government agencies.
  • Manage the production of periodic environmental and sustainability reports and metrics.
  • Engage with location environmental teams to enable the successful deployment of global and regional systems and programs.
  • Support the development of location capacity to ensure improvement in environmental sustainability and operational risk management.
  • Connect with your regional counterparts to drive best practice globally.

What you can bring to the role:
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Degree qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Change, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Expertise within the environmental sustainability field ideally within the resources sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth climate change and carbon policies.
  • Advanced knowledge of State and Federal sustainability requirements in the bauxite mining and aluminium refining and smelting industry.
  • Ability to assimilate and analyse information from various sources to solve complex challenges.
  • Ability to travel domestically as required.
  • A highly collaborative approach working within both our local and global teams and an ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
This position is based on a 2 year fixed term contract.
