    About you

    As ourLegal Counsel, you will be an excellent communicator in both drafting and oral communication skills and posses a positive "can do" attitude with a willingness to take ownership over matters and issues.

    You have a track record of building strong working relationships with your colleagues and are considered a trusted advisor.

    To thrive in this role, you'll have:
    excellent drafting and oral communication skills.
    strong generalist/commercial advisory experience with exposure to a combination of IP, privacy, administrative law and charitable law.
    demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships.
    demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic advice, write in a simple, informed manner about complex matters with strong analytical ability.
    ability to multi-task and balance priorities in a complex fast paced environment.
    a law degree from an Australian institution or equivalent.
    hold a current Australian practicing certificate.
    5+ years post qualification in a private practice (in-house experience highly desirable).
    high ethical standards and integrity in all working relationships.
    About the opportunity
    Reporting to theGeneral Counsel / Head of Legal Services,you will provide support and assistance to the RACGP business units to manage legal and commercial risks under the general supervision of the General Counsel and Senior Legal Business Partners

    In addition, you'll:
    Provide legal advice to the RACGP, including:o general legal advice including statutory compliance, data privacy, property and insurance.
    o commercial advice and negotiation of a range of contracts (including grants).
    o appropriate management of legal and commercial risks, including redrafting of relevant documentation.
    o intellectual property, including trademarks, copyright and IT matters.
    o corporate advice including constitutional interpretation and compliance.
    o scope and deliver projects to improve governance of RACGP and implement strategies.
    o general risk management, statutory and regulatory compliance and day to day advice and support.
    o FOI and regulator requests.

    o advice on relevant aspects of health law and medical practitioner regulationSupport the development, delivery and implementation of LRC employee training.

    Assist in the maintenance of the RACGP's compliance registers.
    Anticipate the business' requirements and recommend ways of satisfying client expectations in legally compliant, innovative ways.
    Represent the legal team by participating on project teams across the RACGP.
    Assist in providing oversight on legal and business operations including identifying business and commercial risk.

    Work collaboratively with other members of the LRC team to identify opportunities for improvement in the areas of governance and legal compliance.

    Maintain an awareness of external governance and legal compliance trends.
    Be a champion of compliance across the RACGP.
