The Role

To support the rapid changes required to implement the recommendations of the Defence Strategic Review and other agreed priorities, Defence needs a consistent approach to resourcing support for change management across the Enterprise.


We have an exciting opportunity for multiple Change Team Leads to join our Enterprise Transformation and Governance Division in a full-time permanent APS6 role.

You will work in a team of like-minded individuals who are passionate about driving successful change across Groups and Services and will assist in supporting internal stakeholders to manage and implement change.


This role sits within an integrated team environment and works closely with key stakeholders across Defence in the execution of our change management approaches.

No merit pools will be established from this recruitment round.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the planning, development and implementation of change management activities within Defence in accordance with the Defence Change Management Framework, Guide and Toolkit.
  • Develop and support complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively support stakeholders through change to build, strengthen and uphold our Change Management Centre of Excellence.
  • Liaise with a range of stakeholders across Defence, other Government agencies and industry to facilitate crossagency or multiagency planning and ensure Change Management best practice. This includes ensuring alignment with the APS Change Management Framework.
  • Maintain awareness of the longerterm strategic, political and operational outcomes guiding our internal change management and transformation initiatives and the possible impacts to our work area.
  • Assist in the supervision and development of junior staff, in addition to building team capacity, skills and capabilities.

About our Team

Under the guidance of senior staff, you'll have a hands-on role, particularly focusing on the successful implementation of a change management Centre of Excellence.

As a valued team member, you will bring your change mindset and can do attitude to the team, supporting the team's engagement with various key stakeholders across Defence to help them progress transformation and Enterprise change initiatives.


Working alongside the Defence Transformation Office within the branch, the team provides targeted support to priority activities across Defence in line with the Enterprise Change Management Framework and APS community of practice standards.


What you'll need to succeed:

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team to deliver outcomes.
  • Excellent written, visual and oral communication skills, including demonstrated commitment to seeking to understand stakeholder needs and expectations and tailoring communication style and message accordingly.
  • Proven experience building and sustaining positive relationships with team members and a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work across priority initiatives to assess change impacts and work with teams to assess change readiness.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training, learning and development activities to a range of stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Teams.
