    Role:


    This is an exciting role for an experienced fire safety specialist that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria. You are a highly experienced fire safety professional who is a member of a team responsible for providing expert compliance and enforcement reviews, technical advice and operational support relating to Waste and high-risk sites. You will drive preventative approaches to managing fire risks of hazardous waste and in hazardous environments and build capability of frontline officers and part of EPA.

    In this role you will:

    1. Provide field and regulatory specialist expertise to address the fire safety controls at high-risk sites.
    2. Work closely with regional operations teams, attending inspections, implementing compliance and enforcement audits, reviews and actions for complex sites and cases related to fire safety controls at high-risk sites.
    3. Help upskill frontline officers and other parts of EPA to build capability across EPA in the understanding of ignition sources, fire risks and relevant controls by providing training and technical advice.
    4. Provide input into policy, permissioning, guidance, development referrals and other work being undertaken by EPA and co-regulators, Fire Rescue Victoria, Country Fire Authority, WorkSafe Victoria.
    5. Participate in the response to environmental and public health emergencies and incidents in support of EPA's role as a technical advisor for lead response agencies.
    6. Staying abreast of contemporary, innovative industry practices, including connection to co-regulators, relevant professional associations, and representative bodies.

    Skills and Experience:


    To be successful in this role you will need to have:

    • A relevant tertiary degree or qualifications in fire safety.
    • Senior level expertise in environment and human health risks associated with fire safety controls at high-risk sites.
    • A knowledge and understanding of Victoria's fire safety codes and regulations.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proven ability to work as an effective member of a cohesive team.
    • A genuine desire to learn, share knowledge and make a difference.
