    School Administrative and SupportPosition Information

    The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools.     About the Role

    School Learning Support Officers provides support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings: pre-school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual. Student Learning Support Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers that are required to be performed.

    Essential Requirements
  • Working with Children Check Clearance
  • Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
  • Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
  • Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).

    • This advertisement of the School Learning and Support Officer's role at Briar Road Public School is allocated to the Support Unit. The Support Unit at Briar Road Public School has three support unit classes: a MC class, IM class and AU/IO class.

    Briar Road Public School is situated in the regional south network. The school has 281 students enrolled and comprises of 3 support unit classes, an ASPECT school satellite class and a preschool. Student enrolments have fluctuated over the last four years due to a NSW Government social housing initiative. The school is culturally diverse with 45% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 22% of students having a language background other than English. 67 students identify as having an EAL/D (English an Additional Language or Dialect) background. The school is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, and a place where staff, students and the community strive for excellence by creating a caring and safe learning community that encourages all to reach their potential.

    Briar Road Public School has a broad range of teaching abilities on the staff. The school has a highly committed staff who deliver high quality teaching programs, supported by high expectation relationships. There is stability in the school executive and the school Aspiring Leadership Program continues to grow future leaders to support succession planning.

    The school receives significant funding in the area of Low-Socio Economic and Aboriginal Education. The diversity of the local community is catered for through cultural classes/programs, leadership opportunities, academic rigor, sporting opportunities and is recognised as a lead school in Aboriginal Education in the Network. The school values community engagement across the whole school community and has a strong working partnership with the Campbelltown Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG).

    In 2021, the school undertook external validation which helped to determine focus areas within the school plan.

    The staff are enthusiastic and dedicated professionals who cater for individual students through quality instruction underpinned by high expectations. Briar Road Public School has two Assistant Principals Curriculum Instruction who deliver high impact professional learning that encompass evidence-based practices across the school.
