ABOUT THE ROLE:


Mercy Mental Health & Wellbeing Service, a provider of Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing services in the southwest metropolitan area of Melbourne, is establishing an Older Adults community based team.

Be part of a growing lived experience workforce at Mercy Health.

We are seeking people with a lived experience who are keen to work alongside older adults on their recovery journey.

The role of consumer and carer peer support workers is unique because it is informed by the persons own lived experience of mental ill health and recovery.


This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the development of a new community team that will provide mental health support to older adults living within the Wyndham and Hobson's Bay communities.


These roles work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the older adult and their families / carers to facilitate support, learning and / or to provide practical assistance for action towards identifying recovery roles.

You will bring the lived experience perspective to the new Older Adults Community Mental Health Team

We will consider full or part time applicants. The role(s) will be based at Saltwater Clinic in Footscray and will work across sites.

ABOUT YOU:
  • Lived experience as a mental health consumer or as a carer of a mental health consumer
  • Experience working in a dedicated lived experience workforce role in mental health
  • The ability to share your consumer or carer lived experience, where appropriate, to support consumers and their family, carers and supporters to build understanding, hope and resilience in line with peer support principles
  • Attained or willing to work towards the Certificate IV in Mental Health (Peer Work) or Training and experience in the Intentional Peer Support framework.
  • Traumainformed understanding of mental and physical ill health and the functional challenges of ageing
  • Current Victorian Driver's licence.

  • Mercy Mental Health Wellbeing Service (South West Area Mental Health Service) is a public mental health service supporting people in south west metropolitan Melbourne with severe and complex mental illnesses by providing acute and communitybased care. Services available includes acute inpatient programs, residential rehabilitation programs and crisis and community recoveryfocused treatment programs. We also deliver inpatient and community specialist perinatal mental health services to women and infants in western Victoria.
