About the role:

  • We are offering a Senior Clinical Psychologist position that is responsible for leading a department to provide a highquality psychology service to the Mater Mental Health Centre, The Intermediate Short Stay Mental Health Unit, and The Morisset Psychiatric Hospital. This role will be equally challenging and rewarding, requiring the ability to prioritise operational management of other psychologists, participate in service leadership, and provide direct clinical care.
  • In this pivotal role, you will lead a dynamic team of psychologists while actively contributing to a larger multidisciplinary leadership team. As the head of the psychology department, you'll provide strategic direction, mentor psychologists, and ensure the effective delivery of psychological services. Your collaboration extends to other department heads, including inpatient OT and Social Work, fostering a cohesive approach to organizational goals. Additionally, you'll work closely with the mental health Head of Psychology, navigating both the unique challenges within the psychology department and the collaborative dynamics of a diverse multidisciplinary leadership team.
  • As a crucial member of the team, you will actively engage in the leadership teams of the facilities you serve. Operationally, you will report to the Nurse Manager 6 at the Mater site, ensuring seamless coordination. Beyond this, you will play a vital role in the wider allied health leadership group under the guidance of the Director of Allied Health. These collaborative relationships will offer valuable supervision, guidance, and support, empowering you to develop and manage a highquality psychology department for Hunter New England Mental Health (HNEMH).

Where you'll be working:

  • The location of the department head is negotiable; however, the role will require management of clinical psychologists across three sites: the Mater Mental Centre in Waratah, the Intermediate Short Stay Unit in Newcastle, and the Morisset Psychiatric Hospital in Morisset.
  • Comfort with online meeting platforms is crucial for seamless communication and collaboration in this role, ensuring effective engagement with teams and stakeholders.
