Where you'll be working:

The John Hunter Children's Hospital is committed to prioritising ways to make its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees feel safe and supported and will be guided by the needs of the successful applicant.


This Paediatric ALO is a job share position within John Hunter Children's Hospital (5-day fortnight), working every Thursday, Friday, and every 2nd Wednesday.

The position is part of the Paediatric Social Work team which is a child-centred family-focused service.


The Paediatric Social Work team is caring and enthusiastic and keen to support the professional goals of each individual and the service as a whole.


About the role:


  • You will work directly with families accessing the emergency department, paediatric wards, and outpatient services
  • You will provide cultural support to children and their families who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and help improve the cultural safety of families accessing John Hunter Children's Hospital
  • You will have opportunities to connect and collaborate with a wider team of Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers within the John Hunter Children's Hospital and John Hunter Hospital
  • You will have access to regular line management support, cultural supervision, and professional development opportunities

Requirements:


  • Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works
  • Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability to travel as required

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (AIR Immunisation History Statement) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.


Acceptable proof of COVID-19 vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement (IHS), or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate, or AIR COVID-19 and Influenza IHS.

Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
