We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Accounting Tax & Credit Team Leader on a permanent full time basis.


About this role


The primary purpose of this role is to provide effective and cohesive team leadership to a diverse and specialist professional team accountable for accounting, tax & credit activities, ensuring the team deliver on all operational, medium and longer term strategic requirements and to ensure that all performance targets are met.


This position is responsible for championing the relevance of internal financial controls, financial standards, financial, tax and credit management guidelines and processes to align with the organisation's accounting practises, credit management policies, Australian Accounting Standards and Tax legislation.


  • Lead in all technical accounting assessments and implementation of new Australian Accounting Standards. Prepare internal papers to Management on the financial impact of all such assessments and lead in all system and process changes required following these changes.
  • Lead in the yearend reporting and external audit activities, facilitate team responsibilities to deliver the annual financial reports both statutory and regulatory as well as the shareholder reporting.
  • Lead the team from periodic accounting close to the preparation of periodic accounting reports including the analysis and variance commentary.
  • Oversee all matters relating to corporate taxes such as income tax, capital tax, FBT, FTC, GST, PAYG. This should also include the accurate and appropriate treatment of deferred tax accounting where relevant.
  • Responsible for leading customers credit risk assessments and the appropriate treatment and allowance for the impairment provision of financial assets.
  • Plan, implement and monitor controls to ensure risks of fraud are mitigated and implement reviews to detect breach of controls.
  • Proactively provide accounting, tax and credit risk management advice and guidance to the business to guide business decisions.
  • Demonstrate core values and lead the team to continuously commit to business improvement opportunities.
  • Develop, manage, and improve stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Identify and manage people issues that impact or have the potential to impact the performance of the team.
  • Annual review and update of all relevant accounting, tax and credit policy.
  • Annual Dividend recommendations.
  • Set strategic and operational targets for the team and manage performance to targets.
  • Coach and mentor team to develop overall capability and ensure team is fully crossskilled in all functions where practical.
  • Contribute to the organisation's budget and forecasts processes on the projection of balance sheet items and selected profit and loss items such as capitalised interest, depreciation, asset impairment and others as required.

About you
We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Degree qualified in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA), CPA Australia, NIA or equivalent
  • An accounting professional with at least 10+ years extensive, demonstrated, and relevant experience, with minimum 5 years management experience of qualified accounting staff.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Australian Accounting Standards and ability to partner with the business on accounting treatment of transactions and the financial impacts.
  • Conversant with the endtoend financial year end reporting and external audit process.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills including solid experience in written reporting of organisational governance, internal financial controls, financial impact of technical accounting assessments or interpretations and financial policies (including to Board level)
  • Effective and proven performance management and coaching skills, and success in leading diverse / specialist teams
  • Demonstrated track record of success with identification, implementation, and benefit tracking of process improvements
  • Welldeveloped organisational skills including time management, prioritising, managing competing deadlines and demands.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence/negotiate in collaborative, cooperative manner; and proven effectiveness in forming and managing strong working relationships with all stakeholders.
