We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced family carer peer worker to provide valuable lived experienced peer support utilising the principles of Intentional Peer Support and the Expanding Post Discharge Support Initiative.


You will have experience caring for someone with mental health issues and a minimum 2 years of experience as a family carer peer worker.

It is expected you will contribute to effective discharge planning to support successful discharge and reduction in readmission rates, by promotion of family inclusive practise, community engagement and support, education and support to families and carers, and support post discharge where appropriate.


The role offers valuable opportunity to step up to the next level of responsibility and experience where you will provide mentoring and supervision to Level 2 peer family carer peer workers, participate in training, recruitment and orientation processes, and provide support to the broader team of family carer peer workers as required.

  • Lived experience of caring for a person with mental ill health
  • Recognition and understanding of own personal recovery process and ability to use this appropriately to support others
  • Ability to use own experience to inspire hope and belief in recovery
  • Ability to establish strong, effective working relationships
  • Effective communication skills and an ability to communicate in everyday, nonclinical language
  • Understanding of the Victorian public mental health system
  • Experience of providing supervision, and supporting the ongoing personal/professional development of others to sustain motivation and professional practise
  • Experience in developing and delivering education and/or training
  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training (or willingness to complete)
  • Completion of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar qualification
