About The Opportunity

The Sexual Assault Service has an exciting opportunity for a Female Sexual Assault Team Leader who will be responsible for the coordination, provision and care of day-time counselling medical responses.

The role sits with in South West Sydney's IPARVAN service.

The Team Leader is responsible for the development and review of systems and practices which ensure the delivery of high quality clinical service to clients who experience recent sexual assault across the district.

The role also oversees the coordination of medico-legal requests. This is a gender-specific role - open to female applicants only.

Being female is considered a genuine occupational qualification as per Section 31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

What you'll be doing

The position is primarily responsible for the management and leadership of a team of sexual assault intake workers with a Violence and Neglect Framework.

The team leader is responsible for the review of systems and practices, ensuring the delivery of high quality clinical intake service.

This will be achieved through the use of Trauma Informed Practices, focusing on optimal health outcomes that are consistent with SWSLHD policies and procedures, standards, relevant legislation, and the NSW Health Code of Conduct.

The team leader will participate in professional development, clinical supervision, teaching, consultation, quality activities and other relevant departmental administrative duties.


Child, Youth and Family Clinical Services Directorate staff work within a trauma informed framework with an understanding of and responsiveness to the impact of trauma on children, young people and their families.

The position will ensure that services are provided in a manner that is welcoming, safe and appropriate for all, including individuals, families and communities who have experienced trauma.

By adopting a trauma-informed and family sensitive approach, health services can play a key part in identifying and meeting the needs of children, young people, individuals, families and communities who are vulnerable.

How to Apply

  • Bachelor degree in Health related field with an emphasis on human behaviour, psychosocial development and counselling. Being female is recognised as a genuine occupation qualification and is authorised under section 31(2h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 197
  • Proven ability to manage a team of workers and lead. Work independently, collaboratively as part of a team and build and maintain partnerships with local agencies.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication skills (written and verbal) and demonstrated computer skills.
  • Evidence of administering clinical, case management and administration supervision to staff. Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience and skill, providing therapeutic interventions to children, young people and adults affected by sexual assault.
  • Demonstrated high level of understanding of; Child Protection, the Children and Young Peoples Care and Protection Act and issues related to children, young people and adults affected by sexual assault.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
