Teaching ServicePosition InformationThornton Public School has an enrolment of 817 students, including 12% Australian Defence Force and 10% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Our school has three support classes catering for the specific needs of students with Emotional Disturbance, Autism and Mild Intellectual disability. The school is located near Maitland the gateway to the Hunter Valley and services a rapidly growing area.
Our vision reflects a whole-school commitment to provide a happy, secure learning environment for all our students. Thornton Public School has increased funding under the Resource Allocation Model (RAM) in the areas of equity and Aboriginal education. The RAM funding is aimed at supporting quality teaching practices to better engage Aboriginal students and the community and maximise educational outcomes for every student.
Our school has a highly professional, cohesive, and dynamic staff with a mixture of youth and experience. Our staff provide high quality educational programs with an emphasis on improving Literacy and Numeracy outcomes and increasing student engagement. School priorities include literacy and numeracy, engagement and strengthening community partnerships. Teachers work collaboratively in stage teams in the areas of planning, programming, and professional development. Through our whole school focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning we aim to promote a positive and engaging learning environment for our students.
The school is currently in the implementation phase for the new English and mathematics syllabus (K-2). All 3-6 classes are BYOD and future focused learning is a priority. Environmental education, sporting, cultural and creative arts programs are features of Thornton Public School.
Specific Selection CriteriaApproval to teach infants and primary with a demonstrated ability to use evidence-based practices in literacy and numeracy to maximise learning outcomes for all students.
Demonstrated ability to create a positive learning environment through the implementation of effective classroom management strategies and student well-being programs that support whole school systems.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the proven capacity to work collaboratively with students, staff, families and community.
A demonstrated commitment to continual development through active participation in professional learning, collaboration, and a strong reflective practice.
Demonstrated capacity and willingness to contribute to whole school extracurricular activities, such as Information Communication Technology and Sport.
