Job Description:


An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Assistant to join the Bioimage Analysis Core of the Centre for Dynamic Imaging in the Advanced Technology and Biology Division at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position


The Bioimage Analysis Core in the Centre for Dynamic Imaging at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, provides researchers with access to expertise and cutting-edge knowledge and resources for the analysis of a wide range of biological imaging techniques ranging from light-sheet, confocal, and widefield microsocpy, micro-CT and spatial-omics methods.

We are seeking a highly motivated and well organised image analyst with qualifications in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or a related field.


This position will suit a self-motivated individual with a high-level of attention to detail who is capable of working with mínimal supervision within a team of scientists that are dedicated to maintaining a world-class optical and spatial imaging platform at the Institute.

Selection Criteria


Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • A relevant qualification in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, bioinformatics, physics or a related field.
  • Knowledge of image processing and computational data acquisition
  • Knowledge of or experience with computer vision or machine learning/AI approaches for image analysis
  • Advanced computer skills and strong level of experience working with various image analysis software packages
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent time management skills and a high level of motivation in achieving research outcomes

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of the field of spatialomics and its data processing requirements
  • Knowledge of and the use of optical microscopy techniques
  • Experience in confocal microscopy, spatial omics or other advanced microscopy techniques
  • Experience working in a medical research environment
  • Experience in data management
Terms of Appointment

This position is available initially for 2 years in a full-time capacity (Part-time may be considered). Salary is RSE 5-6 ($76,566 - $96,133). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
