The Lived Experience / Peer Worker is an exciting new role that will work within Star Health's Mental Health Program in the UpStart team, drawing on their own lived experience to support consumer's mental health recovery and journey through the program.

In this position you will use your own experience, along with the Star Health social model of care, and support from a qualified team to provide individualized and recovery focused support to people accessing the UpStart Program.

The Upstart program supports consumers for up to 6 months providing flexible and person-led support with the aim of the consumer reaching their community participation and vocation goals.


Ideally, you will possess:


  • A professional qualification in Cert IV / above in lived experience / peer work, welfare, mental health or equivalent.
  • Experience in the lived experience framework and how this is related to mental health recovery.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide flexible and creative activities for consumers to support their engagement.
  • Excellent knowledge of the the stigma and barriers experienced by consumers facing mental health challenges.
  • A clear understanding of relationship building within a multidisciplinary team and with consumer and their supports.
