Are You Sure You’re Paying Staff Correctly?

Are You Sure You’re Paying Staff Correctly?

Every once in a while, we might have heard that an employee is not working well enough to be appreciated by an employer. But have we heard that an employee is working really hard, putting in all his efforts, and still, he is underpaid?

Well many employers underpay their staff, and here we are not talking about just any employer. We are talking about big names like Woolworths, Coles, QANTAS, and several more of Australia’s largest employers. There have been many issues in their payrolls in the past.

We at BlueSky believe in paying employees properly, so we built a system called ValidateMyWages.

How Do You Assume You Are Paying Them Correctly?

It is unlikely that these large companies are intentionally trying to exploit their workforce, as the potential consequences of such actions would be too severe.

Medium or Large size Companies keep on believing they are paying their employees correctly. But recently they have uncovered errors in their wages.

Big restaurants like  Dinner by Heston, George Calombaris’ MAdE establishment, the Rockpool Dining Group, billion-dollar hospitality empire, Merivale, Target, Bunnings, World Vision, and even Surf Lifesaving Queensland, have also been caught out in the past few years.

Companies won’t risk their reputation by making wage mistakes on purpose. Possibly they might know that an employee is underpaid.

From our perspective, the difficulty of accurately calculating payroll for Australian employees based on the interpretation of industry awards is a major factor. These awards contain legal ambiguities and complex provisions that can easily lead to misinterpretation.

Based on our knowledge of working with various industry awards for many employers throughout Australia at Recruit Complete (that is a BlueSky brand), we have observed that even within the same state and under the same award, employers may interpret and apply the award differently, which in turn results in different wage payments for employees.

For employees being underpaid this may be disheartening.

The Solution To This: Automated Award Interpretation

A crucial component of the Recruit Complete system is Automated award interpretation. Our system enables the implementation of specific interpretations of an award to calculate employee pay in accordance with the expectations of the employer.

Over the past few years, we have been using this module with our clients, which has led to its development into a sophisticated and intricate calculation system. When we say calculating payroll is tricky, then it is but we have been through grooves so we know how hard it might be on you.

We had already recognized this problem working with many industries in the past so we thought to do something about it at the start of 2020. Here, ValidateMyWages.com came into the picture.

Validate My Wage: Eliminating Wage Fraud

ValidateMyWages.com is a free service that allows both employers and employees to check that their pay is in line with a standard interpretation according to their industry awards. Currently, we are offering the Restaurant Industry award only, and we plan to expand our offerings to include more awards in the future. ValidateMyWages has been developed using the Recruit Complete Award Interpretation Calculation Engine, which has been reconfigured for use with a new UI to handle single timesheet validation requests.

If you still think that interpreting just any award is as simple as interpreting Restaurant Industry Award then think again. As you can't just simply add hours and pay the wages. We would encourage you to start using ValidateMyWages and enter a timesheet.

The numerous variables that are to be considered when calculating a single week's pay are just overwhelming. From our experience with the Restaurant Industry Award, it is the simplest one to exist. You need to wait till ValidateMyWages also launches for Homecare and Nursing Industries.

We are really proud to launch ValidateMyWages as it satisfies the needs of employers and employees. It proves two things:

  1. Interpreting Awards and ensuring accurate pay in Australia is TOUGH.
  2. TOUGH situations may be difficult but not impossible to accomplish it.

Let's Empower Mutual Advantage That Their Wisdom Of Payslips Is Accurate

We understand that things like wage theft do happen once in a while but by using ValidateMyWages we create an error-free environment. Where all are satisfied whether it is an employee who thinks he has been paid correctly or an employer who knows that he pays correctly.

So, why waste more time thinking that their payslips are correct, and why not start using ValidateMyWages when you can be satisfied with the answer that payslips are correct? You can recommend this tool to everyone it is free and easy to use. Whether your friend needs it or as a Business, it might save you from accidentally being the headline of coverage that so and so the company is not underpaying their employee.

Let’s join hands and stop becoming the new pay theft wage - cause of miscalculations of wages. And focus on correcting it.

Stay informed about new developments, including the upcoming release of the ValidateMyWages award. It's coming soon!
