The Role:
Commencing July to September 2024

3 month contract, Full Time load

MLC teachers take a proactive approach to student learning that is dynamic and adaptive, and the classroom is regularly revitalised by new teaching practices and methodologies that keep our students engaged.

Some of your primary duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Liaise with Early Intervention Programs and assess prospective deaf/hard of hearing students.
  • Design and implement individual educational programs for deaf/hard of hearing students, monitor the academic progress of students and evaluate the effectiveness of the programs.
  • Liaise with class room teachers and Deaf Integration staff to provide appropriate support for deaf/hard of hearing students and work with teachers and coordinators to develop and modify curriculum to meet the needs of deaf students.
  • Take an active role in the professional development of colleagues in the area of Deaf Education and participate in appropriate professional development activities in this area.
  • Liaise with Deaf Integration Support Staff.
  • Work with deaf/hard of hearing students within the class, individually or in small groups in a withdrawal setting or online as necessary.
  • Organise and attend termly Program Support Group (PSG) meetings.
  • Maintain up to date student records and files.

About You

  • Experience and skills in the use of Auslan/signed English
  • An interest in implementing current research in the education of the deaf into curriculum design and classroom practice
  • Participation in cocurricular activities and trips
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to student learning and wellbeing.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills
  • Proven competence with use of technology in a learning environment
  • Acts professionally and maintains appropriate confidentiality.
  • Current Victorian Institute of Teaching registration
  • Right to work in Australia
  • Adherence to all College policies and demonstration of behaviours in accordance with the Child Safe Standards.
