The Role


The Communications Adviser plans and implements innovative, high-quality and effective strategic communications, public relations, media and stakeholder engagement services to support the achievement of government priorities and departmental objectives.


Reporting to the Agriculture Communications Manager in the Strategic Communications group, the Communications Adviser will deliver communications for policies, programs, initiatives and ministerial events across the Agriculture portfolio within the department.


The position has the following key accountabilities but not limited to:

  • Support the development and delivery of high quality strategic communications for the Agriculture portfolio areas, including strategy development, stakeholder analysis and engagement support, media relations, social media management as well as reputational risks and issues management.
  • Develop and deliver highquality, accurate communication materials to support ministerial events within required timeframes, maintaining strict confidentiality and in line with DJSIR's communication policies and processes.
  • Contribute to the development of highlevel narratives, ensuring strong and consistent key messaging within the Whole of Victorian Government which aligns with departmental and portfolio specific objectives.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and provide tactical communications advice to the managers and executives in the Strategic Communications group and to departmental executives and senior staff and relevant ministerial offices.

The position of Communication Adviser forms a part of the Communications, Media and Marketing - Regional branch in the Strategic Communications group.


The Strategic Communications group actively promote the Victorian Government's role in growing our state's economy, creating jobs for Victorians, building thriving places and regions and supporting an inclusive and fairer society.
