ABOUT THE ROLE- Environmental Specialist
A key role in the Environmental Specialist proactively supports the responsible management of all environmental matters affecting the company. The Environmental Specialist also incorporates management of cultural heritage matters associated with company activities.

The purpose of the role is to provide a range of environmental services consistent with Environment Strategic Plan and Environment Policy.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage the environmental risk and compliance system by maintaining the environmental obligations register, managing compliance audits and actions, and assisting with investigations into environmental incidents and hazards.
  • Assist the Cultural Heritage Advisor with management of the cultural heritage risk and compliance system as required. This may include maintaining the cultural heritage compliance obligations register and managing compliance audits and actions.
  • Manage amendments to Environmental Authorities and other licenses or permits.
  • Coordinate environmental training and awareness programs, including through the development and implementation of communication tools to enhance environmental awareness, understanding and management.
  • Assist the Cultural Heritage Advisor as required to coordinate cultural heritage work programs including archaeological surveys, cultural heritage monitoring, management plans for significant cultural heritage items, traditional owner meetings and any other requirements set out in Cultural Heritage Management Agreements or Plans.
  • Complete internal and external environmental governance and performance reporting.
  • Prepare internal and external reports and submit data to regulatory agencies e.g., National Pollutant Inventory, Australian Bureau of Statistics, etc.
  • Provide professional advice and support to operational sites to address key environmental matters.

ABOUT YOU
To be considered for this role you will have the following:

  • Degree-level qualifications in a relevant field of science, environmental science, or environmental engineering.
  • Environmental Specialist experience
  • Relevant experience in managing environmental issues in the electricity generation or mining sectors or similar industrial experience (desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with and influence external and internal stakeholders to achieve fair and ethical outcomes in line with stated business objectives.
  • Experience in the management of aboriginal cultural heritage, understanding of relevant state and federal legislation and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is desirable, but not essential.
  • Working knowledge of spatial data management and GIS platforms would be desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal environmental legislative requirements, standards and practices.
