Our client is seeking an experienced
Cost Modeller to join the Cloud Governance Implementation and Maturity project team within the Chief Technology Branch.


About the role

The Cost Modeller would support the development of a centralised cloud governance function, and more specifically, the Cloud FinOps (Financial Operations) practice for the agency.

The duties of the role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and analyse current cloud cost data across all cloud providers to identify trends in spend, key cost drivers and support risk management around cloud spend.
  • Perform detailed cost modelling to support budget predictions within an acceptable level of accuracy, and data / evidencebased decision making for cost optimisation of Cloud services.
  • Work closely with Financebased teams on budgets, financial analysis, reviewing spend and return on investment (ROI) across cloud investments.
  • Collaborate with Cloud Governance project team members in the preparation of documentation for cloud cost management and reporting and the development of the cloud optimisation strategy for the agency.
  • Utilise data analysis tools and techniques to enhance cloud cost reporting and communicate information to enable agency stakeholders to make data driven decisions.
  • Provide input to support cost estimates for Investment Appraisals, project business Cases, and Cost Benefit Analysis to support investment in cloud and sustainment cost considerations.
  • Engage proactively in discussions with procurement teams and existing Cloud service providers to understand pricing models and identifying opportunities for refinement of services.
  • Work within the Cloud Governance project team, executives and colleagues to influence strategic decision makers whilst delivering practical solutions.

Skills and Experience

Essential criteria

  • 3 to 5 years demonstrated experience with cost and/or financial modelling in a Federal Government or a Private sector engagement.
  • Demonstrated modelling for pricing evaluation for a major ICT or Asset project/program.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrable understanding and/or experience regarding cloud financial operations, including consumptionbased billing, cloud financial optimisation, cost allocation, internal charge back/show back.
  • Commercial acumen (investment support, scenario planning, issue identification and resolution etc).
  • Proven ability to communicate with influence, negotiate outcomes and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with proven ability engage with stakeholders and build effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities for multiple completing tasks, manage changes to work requirements, and deliver quality results within tight time limits
  • Working in Information Communication Technology (ICT) related field (preferred) Tertiary Qualification from a related field or an Industry body
  • Strong knowledge, experience and understanding cost governance models.

Desirable:


  • Experience with Cloud governance practices, especially in a government context.
  • Sound knowledge and experience on financial management including budget forecasting

Eligibility/Other Requirements:


  • To be eligible for employment in this role, you must be an Australian citizen, capable of acquiring and then retaining, an Australian Government security clearance at the Baseline level for the duration of the Contract term.
