The Opportunity
Join the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering as an Associate Lecturer. You will be conducting independent research and delivering excellent teaching in the area of water engineering. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career academic looking to lay the foundations for their career in academia.

The role of Associate Lecturer reports to Dr Bojan Tamburic and has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level A $80,476 to $107,299 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full Time


  • Fixedterm

  • July until December 2023 with a view to extend

Skills & Experience:


  • PhD in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the following research areas:
  • Water quality and treatment;
  • Chemical and sensory odorant analysis;
  • Algal bloom assessment, including bioinformatics;
  • Advanced data science, including machine learning;
  • Image processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work constructively with practitioners in the Australian water industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated passion for teaching and learning development and delivery at postgraduate level.
  • Knowledge of educational technologies and delivery methods.
  • Experience engaging students and fostering independent learning through meaningful assessment and helpful feedback.
  • Evidence of and/or preparedness to undertake professional development of teaching practice.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students
  • Preparedness to undertake professional development of teaching practice.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
