About the role


The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Trainee will provide quality Aboriginal health worker practice within an Aboriginal primary health care model of service to implement and support a medical/primary health care team and effectively plan and coordinate own and team's workload to achieve results.

Duties

  • Maintaining health records.
  • Acting as communicator and interpreter on behalf of clients and other health workers.
  • Taking part in case management and follow up, either independently or with other health care providers.
  • Providing health education to individual clients and health staff.
  • Providing cultural education to people outside the cultural community.
  • Providing life skills education, counselling and referral for crisis intervention in the community they serve.
  • Providing input into the planning, development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of all health programs in the community.

Skills and Experiences:

COVID-19 Requirement

  • Immunisation history showing you have received two doses of a Covid 19 vaccine is encouraged.
Required

  • Must identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person in accordance with s25 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1991 (Qld).


Willingness and ability to undertake at a minimum a Cert III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.

The ability to work independently, under guidance or direction and within a multi-disciplinary team.
Previous experience in working with culturally diverse people.
Demonstrated ability to meet targets and performance outcomes.
An ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
Current and valid National Police Check.
