About the Role

The role of the teacher at Allambi is a unique position that provides flexible education options for vulnerable young people in out-of-home care.

This teacher role is unlike a traditional classroom teacher. You will be required to teach small group sizes, team-teach, and provide one-on-one lessons to students.


This role is suited to individuals who enjoy working with young people with complex backgrounds and those willing to adapt to a unique education environment to ensure our students' needs are met.

About Us*Our team supports disengaged young people, distance education students, and students who have been suspended, expelled, or marginalised from all forms of education.

Students who attend can vary from Kindergarten to Year 12.


Classes, sessions, and times are flexible and vary based on the needs of the individuals in attendance at the time.

Group class can run from morning to midday and consists of up to six students.

Individual sessions are shorter in duration with the intention of building capacity to attend paired or small group sessions in the future.


Students who attend are enrolled with a Distance Education school under our facilitation, or teachers provide an individualised educational program to meet their needs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the Teacher Role*- Go above and beyond to build positive, safe relationships with your students

  • Teach young people who have experienced trauma, have a range of complex diagnosis and are academically and/or socially disadvantaged
  • Teach small class sizes, teamteach and provide intensive oneonone sessions
  • Implement a diverse range of teaching strategies that will cater for varied learning styles and cognitive abilities
  • Manage a diverse caseload of students and provide them with educational support
  • Create individualised programs that cater for a range of needs. These can include but are not limited to; Academic Programs, Interest-Based Projects, Life Skills, Social Skills etc
  • Coordinate and facilitate schoolwork via the students Distance Education school. This includes all communication with schools and facilitation of schoolwork
  • Ability to use initiative to "think outside of the box" to engage with young people who are disengaged from education
  • Demonstrates excellence in managing challenging behaviours and crisis in line with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Model
  • Works collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop Individualised Education Plans (IEP) for all young people and facilitate IEP meetings
  • Conducts diagnostic testing in the areas of literacy, numeracy and social and emotional and accurately uses data to inform plans and programs
  • Prepares professionally written progress reports on academic, social and emotional growth
  • Complete anecdotal weekly case notes based on educational and behavioural progress
  • Demonstrate outstanding time management, oral and written communication skills
Selection Criteria*Demonstrated experience in managing young people with challenging behaviours in a therapeutic manner.

  • This role will require you to create individualised programs for students based on their academic gaps and/or student interests. Please outline your experience.
  • We are looking for individuals who are flexible and will go above and beyond to engage our students in education. Please provide us with a relevant example demonstrating your experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people who have experienced trauma and can make reasonable adjustments to their teaching style to include traumainformed practices
  • Proven ability to build connections with young people based on their strengths. Would you please provide an example of a scenario that required you to use this skill?
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Education.
Must have these documents if successful*- Current First Aid Certificate (Provide First Aid; Course Code HLTAID003)
