    About our opportunity

This process is being used to fill up to 4 immediate vacancies. A merit pool may be established and used to fill similar vacancies for up to 18 months.

    About our team

Cyber & Infrastructure Security | Cyber & Technology Security Policy

The Cyber and Technology Security Policy Division (CTSPD) is seeking highly experienced EL2 Directors to join our team.

CTSPD leads the development of national cyber and emerging and critical technology policy. We address the global challenges and opportunities that cyber and emerging and critical technology bring in order to maintain and enhance Australia's security, unity and prosperity. We work across government, industry, academia and internationally to support and guide policy concerning cyber, data and technology security. We are also responsible for setting and maintaining security policy to protect the Australian Government's people, information and assets, domestically and internationally.

There are several vacant positions across the Division. Successful candidates will lead a team and oversee the development and implementation of policy and programs designed to address some of the most pressing and emerging national security challenges.

Please visit our website for more information about the Department of Home Affairs or Australian Border Force

    Our ideal candidate

We value a diversity of different skills, qualifications, perspectives and backgrounds. There are a wide range of positions available across the Division and we take a flexible approach to recruitment. We can offer opportunities based on your professional interests and experience and encourage you to discuss these preferences with the panel during the interview process.

We are looking for people who want to solve complex problems, drive and deliver initiatives, and foster a positive team culture, whilst working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Importantly, you don't need to be a technologist or deep subject matter expert, while this would be helpful for some roles, generalist problem solving and critical thinking skills will enable you to fully contribute.

Depending on the specific role, the successful applicants would have:

    • Demonstrated leadership experience and proven ability to develop and maintain high performing, motivated and well-supported teams
    • Excellent engagement skills, including with government, industry and international stakeholders to co-design and implement legislative and non-legislative measures to enhance cyber and protective security across the Australian economy
    • Expert understanding of national security, cyber security or protective security policy and be able to leverage this knowledge to assist in the delivery of new policy initiatives and frameworks across government
    • Demonstrated understanding of Australia's statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks relevant to cyber security and apply this knowledge to highly complex policy development
    • Expert written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and persuasively to influence outcome and produce high quality ministerial or executive briefings and submissions
    • Demonstrated integrity and sound judgement when engaging with risk.

    Duties and responsibilities

The Cyber and Technology Security Policy Division has multiple current and expected vacancies for EL2 Directors. Within the Division, you will work within your team and across your Branch to:

    • Support development of proposed cyber security legislative reforms, including consultation processes, policy development and development of materials such as drafting instructions
    • Engage across agencies and with industry stakeholders to support strategic policy development across a number of cyber and technology security related initiatives
    • Work both autonomously and collaboratively to contribute to key policy initiatives and ongoing programs, in line with current priorities and in response to emerging and future threat vectors and opportunities
    • Engage with international counterparts to progress a range of current and emerging cyber and technology policy matters and support policy implementation and evaluation across the breadth of the cyber security agenda
    • Maintain the Protective Security Policy Framework and support Australian Government entities to effectively implement information, technology, personnel, physical, risk and governance security policy
    • Develop high quality briefing materials and advice to support the Department's identified strategic priorities and engagement with Government, industry and international stakeholders.

    Additional information

    Desirable

    • Tertiary qualifications or demonstrable experience in cyber security, international relations, national security, law, law enforcement, intelligence, operational governance and planning, crisis response and preparedness, program management and public administration (or similar).
