he Role

As the CFO of a not-for-profit organisation that supports some of the most vulnerable people in the community, you will be responsible for oversight of the finance function and providing financial leadership across the organisation.

You will also play a key mentoring and coaching role to a small team; the role is an integral member of the leadership team providing strategic financial advice whilst also remaining 'hands on' and across the detail.

The duties of your position will include but not be limited to the following.

  • Leading the finance function, including ensuring the program runs efficiently within budget, setting the strategic direction of the finance function and managing and developing a team of finance staff and volunteers.
  • Providing financial advice and leadership on the organisation's strategy and key decisionmaking.
  • The development and execution of a robust financial planning cycle including the annual budget and regular business forecasts.
  • Providing future focused management information and dashboards that enable the Finance Committee, Board and management to make informed decisions, including the analysis of departmental financial performance
  • Guiding and coaching department Directors and Program Managers to enhance financial literacy, including guidance with compiling program budgets and forecasts.
  • Identifying financial risks and provide timely reports and mitigations for same.
  • Modelling behaviours that drive the development of strong and collaborative relationships between Finance and key areas of the organisation, including fundraising, program delivery and support services.
  • Building and managing an effective relationship with key stakeholders including the Finance Committee Chair, Finance Committee, the Auditor and the Board.
  • Preparing of the annual IFRS financial statements and input into the full annual report
  • Monthly reporting to the Finance Committee and presentation to the Board on financial results
  • Leading the annual audit process and statutory reporting
  • Developing and implementing appropriate financial policies, procedures and controls to ensure compliance with relevant statutory and legislative requirements.
To be successful, you will be CA/CPA qualified and a commercially strong and hands-on finance leader.

You will have excellent communication skills and previous experience managing cashflow in a challenging environment, as well as leading a transformation of a finance function.

Previous experience in leading Not-for-profit finance functions that are primarily dependent on fundraising and grant income streams is highly desirable but not essential.
