About the role:


The Licensing and Regulation Division (LRD) is responsible to act as the regulators for the Firearm, Private Security and Weapons industries.

LRD's regulatory activities are focused on managing risks to public safety and upholding the integrity of the state's licensing regime.

LRD is looking for a Team Leader who will report to the section manager of the unit, to motivate, coach, develop and supervise a small team of individuals in the Firearm Dealer Transactions team.

The Firearm Dealer Transaction team is responsible for the recording and tracking of firearm ownership in and out of Victoria.

They also coordinate firearm recovery following death, cancellation or licence expiration of a licence holder.

Your duties will include:


  • Supervising, coaching, communicating and motivating team outcomes including the development, monitoring, acknowledgement and support of team standards, benchmarks and service outcomes. Reviewing and assessing performance and providing feedback for reporting staff.
  • Workload management respective to Dealer Transactions.
  • Assessing, authorising, validating, investigating and/or approving administrative or firearm permits and transactions in accordance with legislative, policy and standard operating procedures.
  • Actioning and resolving error reports and provide assistance with systems and testing.
  • Actively encourage and promote process improvement opportunities.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Ability to coach mentor and develop others.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Negotiation and problemsolving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience using basic functions in MS Office.

Requirements and relevant information:


  • One (1) x full time, ongoing position available.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
