The Gynaecological Oncology Group at The Chris O'Brien Lifehouse has a Senior Registrar position available for the 2025 training year . The position is for 12 months.

The Senior Registrar will be involved with the in-patient and outpatient management and wholistic care of patients attending for assessment and treatment of gynaecological cancer.

Selection Criteria

1. Ideally pursuing a future career in gynaecological oncology
2. NSW Medical Board Registration or eligible for registration
3. Completion/undertaking of specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
4. Completed oral and written RANZCOG specialty exam
5. Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in Gynaecological Oncology commensurate with level of training
6. Track record in initiating and developing new research protocols, writing research grants, co-ordinate the research process and publish and present research findings at national and international scientific meetings in a timely manner
7. Demonstrate surgical skills in advanced pelvic surgery commensurate with experience
8. Clinical and research experience with gynaecological cancer patients preferred
9. Good verbal and written communication skills
10. Good organisational skills
11. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
12. Commitment to patient safety and completion of mandatory training
13. Pass English proficiency test if English not native language

Abilities / learning goals:

1. Take a comprehensive medical history and perform a general physical examination in addition to a specific gynaecological history and examination

2. Select the appropriate diagnostic techniques to establish gynaecological oncology diagnoses; establish the extent of disease; and evaluate co-existing disease which may have an impact on treatment

3. Understand the pronciples of current FIGO classification system for staging of gynaecological cancers

4. Understand the genesis of malignant tumours, the biologic behavior of premalignant and malignant tumours, and important characteristics and prognostic features

5. Should have a sufficient knowledge of normal physiology and pathophysiology

6. Should understand the current known effect of environmental factors on carcinogenesis and the risk of gynaecological cancer

7. Demonstrate an understanding of genetic factors in the development of malignancy

8. Have sufficient familiarity with reviewing evidence based medicine to permit critical analysis of current literature and of experimental design

9. Have sufficient knowledge of general medical and therapeutic principles to permit adequate preoperative evaluation and preparation of the oncology patient and to allow appropriate selection of consultants when indicated.

10. Care for unwell patients in the peri-operative and post-operative periods

11. Be able to perform safe laparoscopic entry, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomies (uncomplicated), and hysterectomy under supervision

12. Prior experience in laparotomy, hysterectomy and open gynaecological procedures

Description of duties:

1. Be responsible for the day to day medical and surgical care of patients of the Sydney Gynaecological Group. This includes in and outpatients and outreach patients. This may include out of hours care.
2. Participate in the teaching of registrars, residents and medical students
3. Take part in or initiate research and or quality assurance projects within the Unit and Hospital
4. Be involved in the continuing development of the hospital as a tertiary referral centre

To attend annual training in the following: Orientation (on appointment to position); Fire Safety (annually)
