The Role

  • The Head of Service, Hepatology, contributes to the overall leadership and management of the Hepatology Department within the Royal Melbourne Hospital and is responsible and accountable for the delivery of highquality Imaging clinical services, education and research within the Hepatology department, and within allocated resources.
  • They will provide strategic, operational and financial leadership and have ultimate responsibility for achieving agreed performance targets for the department.
  • The Head of Service, Hepatology will contribute to the management of inpatients and outpatients with Gastrointestinal Disorders, focussing on, but not limited to Hepatology.
  • Duties will include:
  • Endoscopy (Elective and Emergency)
  • Inpatient Management/Consultations
  • Outpatient Clinics in Hepatology/General Gastroenterology
  • MDM participation
  • Leadership of Hepatology Team
  • Development of Hepatology Services
  • Trainee Supervision
  • Liaison with other services
  • Development of Digital documentation for assessment, management and audit of Hepatology
  • Participation in Departmental QA activities
  • Participation in Research

Formal Qualifications required:


  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Registration with AHPRA
  • FRACP in Gastroenterology
  • CCRTGE Certification and Recertification in Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy
