Assistant Principal - Faith Formation and Mission

A Leadership Team role commencing Term 1, 2024

Role Outline

The Assistant Principal - Faith Formation and Mission is responsible to the Principal and is a member of the
College Leadership Team. The position shares in the leadership of the Chevalier Community by working
collaboratively and creatively with the Leadership Team to ensure the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC)
values, ethos and charism enable a flourishing heart-centred community. As a part of a network of MSC
schools, the position also undertakes specific work for the Chevalier Institute in consultation with the principal,
and represents the College on the Staff Formation Network, convened by the Chevalier Institute.

Furthermore, the Assistant Principal - Faith Formation and Mission is required to:

  • support the Principal in the ministry of leadership, reflecting the mission of the Catholic Church as
underpinned by MSC values, ethos and charism.
- use research and data to think, design and plan strategically. - maintain a relational approach to team building through collaboration and critical thinking. - foster an innovative teacher mindset which supports heart-centred learning. - possess high level communication skills and interpersonal skills including empathy and valuing

confidentiality.
- contribute to a culture of loving support which enables risk taking, imagination, creativity and
innovation.
- encourage a spirit of respectful collaboration and collegiality among staff.

Role Requirements

The Assistant Principal - Faith Formation and Mission has oversight of all staff and all students in relation to
matters of faith, formation and mission. The position works closely with the College Chaplain to ensure
the delivery of vibrant liturgy across the college community. In addition, they ensure the College provides a
purposeful and meaningful social justice program inclusive of social outreach initiatives.

In the domain of Faith, the Assistant Principal - Faith, Formation and Mission is responsible for:

  • promoting and deepening the MSC charism, Spirituality of the Heart and the Catholic educational
tradition in all aspects of college life.
- ensuring that MSC perspective permeates every aspect of college life, inclusive of pastoral and learning
programs as well as policies and procedures.
- overseeing the coordination, development and implementation of liturgies, celebrations and prayer
experiences appropriate to the spiritual life of the College.
- supporting staff in their preparation of prayer for staff and faculty meetings. - offering parents and families the opportunity to engage with MSC values, ethos and charism through

regular communications via various communication channels including social media.

In the domain of Formation, the Assistant Principal - Faith, Formation and Mission is responsible for:

  • developing the College Retreat program, including the development of training programs for staff who
assist at retreats.
- working closely with the Chevalier Institute in its delivery of retreat programs for staff. - presenting and facilitating Staff Spirituality Days. - collaborating with the Principal in the development of formation plans for members of the Leadership

Team and College Board.
- overseeing the development and implementation of the staff formation process. - working with key senior and middle leaders to develop student leadership formation programs

permeated by MSC perspective.
- continuing his/her own spiritual development.
