Assistant Principal - New Ambitions and Innovation

Role Outline

As a member of the College Leadership Team, the Assistant Principal - New Ambitions and Innovation assists
the Principal, and the Leadership Team, to design and establish new ambitions for learning which affords
young people with opportunities to be educated and assessed in new ways with relevance to a rapidly
changing world. The College is moving away from the 20th Century 'grammar of schooling' by developing new
alternative metrics to recognise, assess, credential and report on student and school success.

Working closely with the Assistant Principal - Teaching and Learning, and as a lead researcher within the
College, the Assistant Principal - New Ambitions and Innovation will help envision and establish a new team,
which may include roles focused on artificial intelligence and data analysis. This team will lead the design,
development, measurement and credentialling of new skills, capabilities and complex competencies required
for a changing world.

Role Requirements

The Assistant Principal - New Ambitions and Innovation is required to:

  • source, establish and develop alternative and additional metrics, contemporary assessments, standards
and new credentials to measure student performance, engagement and success, to lead the
development of a trusted and warranted Chevalier Learner Profile.
- establish processes to collect evidence and report on student learning, complex competencies and
wellbeing development.
- with direction from the Assistant Principal
  • Teaching and Learning, work collaboratively with the
Leaders of Learning to co-design and deliver professional learning which builds the capabilities of
teachers in areas of identified need.
- work collaboratively with innovative school leaders, academic experts and international trailblazers to
reimagine and influence schooling in Australia.
- connect with national and international networks to promote the effective use of new metrics in
secondary school learning environments.
- lead the College towards new approaches to school-based education that unlock the potential of each
student.

  • Keep abreast of, and promote, new technologies which impact on teaching and learning, engagement,
productivity and workflow.

Furthermore, the Assistant Principal - New Ambitions and Innovation is required to:

  • support the Principal in the ministry of leadership, reflecting the mission of the Catholic Church as
underpinned by Missionaries of the Sacred Heart values.
- use research and data to think, design and plan strategically. - maintain a relational approach to team building through collaboration and critical thinking. - foster an innovative teacher mindset which supports student-centred learning. - model highly accomplished teaching using contemporary pedagogy and flexible curriculum design.
- possess high level communication skills and interpersonal skills including empathy and valuing
confidentiality.
- support teachers to leverage digital technologies to enhance teaching, learning and assessment. - contribute to a culture which enables risk taking, imagination, creativity and innovation.

Functions of the Role

The Assistant Principal - New Ambitions and Innovation is expected to:

  • Lead learning and assist the Principal, Senior Leaders and Leaders of Learning to:
- plan, develop, implement and evaluate frameworks to deliver the College's strategic intent.
- establish goals and high expectations for all students and teachers.
- plan and engage in professional learning with school staff on contemporary teaching, learning and

assessment.

  • Lead self and others and assist the Principal to:
  • build the capacity and capabilities of self and others.
- challenge existing practice to ensure reflection and continuous improvement.
- work with colleagues as a leader and team-member.


Other functions include:
- contributing to College leadership - undertaking professional learning - undertaking performance review - other duties as requested by the College Principal.

employment arrangements at the college.
