Behaviour Support Practitioner

Are you ready for an exciting new opportunity? United Disability Care is seeking a talented individual to join our small but rapidly growing Behaviour Support team. Located either in the Gold Coast, Logan or Brisbane.


The primary role of the Behaviour Support Practitioner is to work alongside participants and their supports to assist people living with complex behavioural challenges to improve the individual's overall quality of life.


The Behaviour Support Practitioner uses evidence-based data collection, assessments, and a functional behaviour analysis to inform a Positive Behaviour Support Plan or Behavioural strategies.

By using Applied Behaviour Analysis and Positive Behaviour principles for children and adults in the home, community, school and workplace settings we strive to make a positive change.


The Behaviour Support Practitioner works collaboratively and continuously with the participant, their families, allied health providers, and their supports at all levels to ensure a cohesive approach is applied and the full potential of participants is identified and supported.


Training is provided to the individuals supports and continuously monitored and evaluated to ensure effective outcomes for individual through a person-led, strengths-based, least restrictive approach which is always underpinned by the National Disability Services Standards.


Reporting to the Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner, you will be working alongside a supportive professional team to provide behaviour support services.


Including but not limited to:

  • Undertaking intake and comprehensive functional assessments, including consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Developing and communicating positive behaviour support strategies for clients families and support workers to enable them to support clients with PBSPs appropriately.
  • Completing ongoing assessments regarding client's behaviours and make recommendations about appropriate strategies.
  • Creating and delivering training to individuals and support teams.
  • Providing services with timely advice on how to respond to people with challenging behaviour through the lens of positive behaviour support practices, advice on the least restrictive option, if a practice constitutes a restrictive practice, and how to proceed according to current legislative requirements.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences, Education or other relevant allied health qualification.
  • 2+ years of proven experience within a clinical or practice setting within the Health, Disability or Community Sector.
  • Core or Proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner Level (or knowledge and skills necessary to acquire this).
  • Demonstrated capacity to analyse and interpret client records, plans and documentation and undertake functional assessments, develop positive behaviour support plans and provide findings and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability to develop and sustain influential working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and managing and influencing through a contemporary evidencebase.
  • Proven analytical, problemsolving, written, report writing, and evaluation knowledge and skills.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and decisionmaking based on evidence.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a current driver's license, blue card, criminal history check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, evidence of right to work in Australia, and an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.
