LAB TECHNICIAN/ SHIFT CHEMIST

Here is a perfect opportunity to step away from the manufacturing side of Molycop and be part of our product testing within our internal laboratories and technician teams in a Mon-Fri day work role.

This role will see you using your steelmaking and manufacturing knowledge, and upskilling you into duties within our laboratory workshop & metallurgical testing laboratory including:

  • Tensile testing of samples for Rail Products & Bar Products
  • Hardness testing of samples for Grinding Media, Rail & Bar Products
  • Impact testing of samples for Rail & Bar Products
  • Sectioning & preparation of samples for chemical analysis
  • Sectioning, preparation & polishing of samples for metallography
  • Etching & metallography
  • Preparing samples and analysis for investigations


This expression of interest for Lab Technicians will see you initially learning all facets within the metallurgical laboratory and creating a steady career as a technician.


You'll then have the opportunity to upskill further and step into a Shift Chemist Technician role in a relief capacity to support all Chemical analysis in the Chemical Laboratory.


As a relief shift chemist this role will see you working a 12-hour, 6-day roster pattern, with half of Saturday, Sunday and mid morning Monday yours to enjoy.


Within this role you'll be required to have:

  • A methodical and systematic approach to your work
  • Strong attention to detail and skill to work with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to work autonomously and be selfmanaging where required
  • Commitment to safe work practices and a proven safety record
  • Plan and organise work tasks
  • Work effectively in a team based environment
  • Strong data recording ability
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • A Senior First Aid Certificate would be desirable
