    The opportunity we have available
The Commercial and Network Analysis Section is looking for a motivated, high performing and proactive team member at the APS6 level to contribute to the due diligence the section provides to the Australian Government and senior stakeholders on complex projects and major investment opportunities.

The successful applicant will join a team that provides strategic and technical advice for significant land transport projects to support informed investment decisions by Government. The section is responsible for conducting detailed analysis and assessment of infrastructure project proposals seeking Government funding, expanding the department's transport network analysis capabilities, and advising the Minister, the Executive and other Government stakeholders on risks and issues related to the funding and financing of major projects.

The position requires a committed individual with a demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a member of a team and prioritise tasks. Attention to detail is critical with the ability to quickly identify key issues, including working with colleagues and other areas to provide advice within tight deadlines. The successful applicant must be able to support the delivery of quality and timely advice to the Executive, be committed to achieving results under pressure and within set timeframes, and be creative and flexible in their daily activities.

    What will you do?
You will apply and maintain overarching best practice principles relating to cost estimation, conduct rigorous and detailed strategic assessments of land transport projects including reported economic benefits, identify risks and challenges, and work with your colleagues to provide advice on the robustness of the proposals for major projects seeking Australian Government funding.

    Key duties will include:

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Infrastructure Group, state and territory governments, and public and private sector organisations to gather and share insights.
  • Reviewing and maintaining cost benefit, cost estimation and network modelling policy and guidance material for the division and the Executive.
  • Working collaboratively across the group to support improved investment and regulatory outcomes through specialist policy or project advice.
  • Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is a fast learner and engages effectively with stakeholders to influence outcomes and achieve continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to think strategically, carry out robust research and analysis and exercise judgement.
  • Experience in cost estimation and design or willingness to learn
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships, including the ability to collaborate and work across a number of teams.
  • A degree or relevant qualification in civil engineering is highly desired or, alternatively, a degree or relevant qualification in engineering will be considered.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication, interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Member of Engineers Australia or eligible to obtain membership upon engagement.
  • What else can we offer?
