The Opportunity:


  • The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a high performing Parliamentary Executive Level 1 Executive Officer to join the Business Management and Strategic Advisory Team, Security Division.


The Security Division is responsible for the provision of security services, building security, access management, security capability asset management, Australian Parliament House (APH) and DPS security policy, security risk management, resilience planning and emergency management.


  • Security Division is a dynamic and fastpaced work environment. We work closely with diverse stakeholders who have unique needs and engage with our service delivery. We liaise extensively with other federal agencies and parliamentary departments to manage security at APH.

To be successful in this role you will be required to demonstrate ability to provide high level quality assurance on briefs and correspondence whilst working in a fast pace environment.

  • Under broad direction from the Assistant Secretary, you will undertake duties with a high level of complexity and at times sensitivity, including:
  • Provide strategic and operational support to the Strategic Advisor, Assistant Secretary Security Enabling Services Branch, Assistant Secretary Security Operations Branch, and the First Assistant Secretary Security Division.

Prepare, manage and review the provision of high-level information, communication and correspondence including briefings, reports, submissions and notes to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of written information.

Engage and provide high level guidance to the Division and be a conduit for work being presented to the Assistant Secretaries and First Assistant Secretary.

Engage and communicate effectively with Directors and the Office of the Deputy Secretary, and Office of the Secretary in relation to Division matters.

Act as the point of contact with stakeholders and work collaboratively with business areas to ensure information provided to the First Assistant Secretary is on time and of a high quality.

Provide quality assurance on briefs and correspondence from the First Assistant Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Secretary, Presiding Officers and other senior stakeholders.

Lead and contribute to projects to support the achievement of organisation level strategic and operational objectives.
Other duties as requested.
