About the Role


Part of the Department of Enterprise, Industry and Trade cluster, Create NSW focusses specifically on achieving the NSW Government's priority of fostering excellence in arts, music, screen and culture in NSW.

We work collaboratively with artists and arts workers, the arts and cultural sector and our partners within government to provide a range of support services including management of grants of varying scales to recipient individuals and government and non-government organisations; overseeing more than $2.5b in cultural infrastructure projects to create the spaces where arts can flourish; and managing a portfolio of arts and heritage properties predominantly leased to cultural organisations.

Policy Lead, Aboriginal Strategy & Engagement coordinates the development, delivery and implementation of Aboriginal policies that support and enable the vibrancy and viability of arts, culture and screen sectors in NSW.


In this role you will:

  • Coordinate research, analysis and reviews of relevant policy issues, including the commencement of a First People's Strategy for Create NSW.
  • Organise the implementation of strategies to achieve the Government's strategic objectives of improving access and outcomes for Aboriginal people, young people and people with a disability; promoting cultural tourism; enhancing professional development, business and sector sustainability and revitalising infrastructure.
  • Support and drive cultural awareness and ensure the division acts with integrity and in accordance with Indigenous cultural protocols.
  • Coordinate and implement Create NSW's internal and external Aboriginal engagement protocols.
  • Support projects of strategic importance, at both organisation and wholeofgovernment levels, to support and enable the vibrancy and viability of arts, culture and screen sectors in NSW.

Essential Requirements
Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997.


About You

To be successful in this role you:

  • Possess sound knowledge of the arts, culture and screen sectors combined with experience in policy development, delivery and implementation, particularly Aboriginal strategy and policy.
  • Hold strong communication skills and the ability to establish and build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
