About the Organisation


The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses, and visitors.

These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more.

About the Role

  • This is a specialist role leading the integrated Council response to Community Safety balancing outcomes of amenity, inclusion, safety, and city vibrancy.
  • This position will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the Community Safety and Wellbeing plan
  • This position requires a highly motivated leader, with strong stakeholder skills as well as a demonstrated capacity to develop strategic responses to complex community safety matters.
  • Success will come from working collaboratively with all stakeholders (internal/external) and building a culture within the organisation where community safety matters are addressed through environmental and codesign.
  • The Coordinator Diversity, Equity and Inclusion leads a diverse team that works across the organisation and with a range of external stakeholders to deliver Council's diversity, equity, inclusion and human rights objectives outlined in the Council Plan.
  • Key portfolio areas include diversity policy and planning, Welcoming Cities, LGBTIQA+ inclusion, gender equality, and preventing violence against women.
  • The position works closely with the community, advisory groups, partner agencies and other Council departments to deliver an integrated and cohesive approach to improving inclusion and wellbeing.
  • The Position provides strategic guidance on strategy review, development, and implementation, in particular the parts of the Council Plan that align with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • The Coordinator is also expected to build cooperation and work constructively across the unit, department, division and Council.

Duties:


  • Lead the development and implementation of organisational wide strategy to advance diversity, equity and inclusion across the Council's workforce and developing plans to meet the Councils' targets and objectives.
  • Undertake analysis, interpretation and presentation of data, trends, environmental and risk analysis and other information to support evidenced based recommendations.
  • Provide highlevel support and guidance to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team, as well as key advisory groups within the diversity portfolio
  • Provide strategic guidance in streamlining the role and function of Advisory groups including the expansion of engagement opportunities for people with disability
  • Support and/or promote internal and external events that celebrate and recognise our diverse community.

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to build and maintain positive and productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Comprehensive understanding of local government's role and the broader policy framework in diversity, equity and inclusion matters.
  • Experience in leading teams and developing programs, policies and/or strategies in accordance with evidencebased best practice.
  • Proven experience working in areas that are complex in a highly political and complex environment
