The Opportunity


Icon Water's Governance & Sustainability team is seeking a dedicated and motivated Governance Secretariat Officer to coordinate and manage a range of corporate governance and statutory compliance and reporting for the organisation and its subsidiaries.

You will be a well-rounded individual with varied experience and be able to work collaboratively in a small team and build strong relationships and trust across the organisation.


Your day will involve:


  • Responsible for coordinating end to end Board and Board Committee management and meetings, including ensuring the timely completion and despatch of papers, preparing and maintaining correspondence, reports, minutes, quality assurance, and general secretariat support with oversight of the Company Secretary.
  • Proactively promote good governance and have a positive influence on the effectiveness of the Board and Board Committees by providing resources, information and communications as needed and appropriate.
  • Develop effective working relationships with members of the Boards, Committees, the Managing Director and the executive team to ensure that all relevant stakeholders have the necessary support and information that enables key activities to meet corporate governance requirements.
  • Develop, implement, review and maintain corporate governance initiatives, procedures and frameworks to promote open and transparent corporate governance practices and ensure effective compliance.
  • Manage and maintain key corporate governance documents including Board and Committee Charters, conflicts of interest register and forward meeting and compliance calendars.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the induction and professional development of directors including through supporting regular board performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate requirements including trademarks and business names registrations, Australian Securities and Investment Commission company records and inclusion of Board and governance information in Annual report.
  • Manage requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (ACT and ensure compliance with legislative requirements), seeking specialist legal advice as needed.
  • Other duties within the employee's skill, competence and training.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Governance, Business or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in a previous governance position.
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate planning and project management.
  • Experience in monitoring legislative requirements and industry changes which may have an impact on the organisation.
  • Knowledge of legislation and standards relevant to governance and company secretariat functions.
